Making an appointment and agreeing to work with a therapist can be daunting. I try and make the practicalities clear and straight forward. How does it all work?
Meetings take place at my therapy premises in central Richmond at Parkshot House, 5 Kew Road, opposite Richmond Station (next door to Starbucks). A public car park is situated at the back of the station, and a large public NCP car park is located next to the station. The main entrance of the building offers disabled access. The room is on the ground floor, in a confidential and quiet setting, with a welcoming, warm and informal atmosphere.
Richmond is easily accessible via the underground (District line), Overhead Service from East or West London, 20 minutes by British Rail from Waterloo, or by bus from South West and West London, Hounslow or Surrey.
The first session
The first meeting gives you an opportunity to tell me what you think I need to know, and why you are considering therapy at this stage in your life. There are some specific questions I ask everybody, to help make sure I can work out whether I am the right support for you. At the end of the meeting we can think together where to go from here.
From April 2018 onwards I only offer weekday day time appointments to new clients. I work on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Workshops usually take place on a Saturday. I also operate a waiting list, in case appointment times you are interested in are currently not available.
My session fee (including first session) is £70.
Payment is by cheque or cash at the end of each session. Bank transfer will be available by mutual agreement after the first 4 sessions. I provide a written receipt upon request. Payments for workshops have to be made in advance.
The number of sessions
This would depend on your goal for therapy. This would be discussed at our first meeting. The length of therapy can be reviewed as appropriate. Please note that I no longer offer long-term therapeutic support, which may last several years. I now offer short and medium term work ranging from 5 sessions to 6 months.
The session length
The standard length is 50 minutes. First sessions can run a bit longer.
The session frequency
This is weekly, on the same day, at the same time. I am aware that due to other commitments, that may not always be possible and will try to be flexible with alternative slots. However, a lack of regularity and continuity will undermine the usefulness of your therapy. Where clients are preparing to end therapy fortnightly sessions can also be considered. For clients who undergo cancer treatment separate arrangements will be agreed.
For therapy cancellations with at least 48 hours notice (2 working days) no fee applies. I offer such cancellations 4 times during our work together. After that the full fee applies, as is the case for cancellations with less or no notice. I would always aim to offer you a suitable replacement slot, if available. Workshop attendance will have to be cancelled with at least 5 working days notice, for the full fee to be returned.
Clients undergoing cancer treatment may not be able to commit to regular sessions all of the time, and we would agree a suitable alternative. Equally, we would agree a suitable arrangement for cancellations due to unwellness.
Terms and conditions
In the interest of transparency, every client receives a written agreement from me, which outlines the terms of our work and your goals.
